Embark on a once in a lifetime trip to the Last Frontier where you will apply the health and fitness you have been developing on a life changing journey.

What part of Alaska ?

The Alaskan adventure is broken up into two trips with the option to do both.

Chilkoot Trail
June 26th - July 2nd, 2008
The Chilkoot Trail is the most famous trail in the North, perhaps the world.  It is the centerpiece of gold rush history and is the main route to the riches of the Klondike.  In 1898, there was a never-ending line of stampeders on their way to the gold fields.
The Chilkoot is a designated National Historic Site because of the role it played in the mass movement of people to the Yukon during the Klondike Gold Rush.

The trail starts in the ghost town of Dyea, just a few miles from the town of Skagway, Alaska.  This spectacular trail winds its way through three distinct ecological zones, each with its own unique beauty.  We begin in the lush rainforest, which is alive with eagles, salmon, and edible berries.  We then enter the alpine zone, which is carpeted with wildflowers and spectacular views.  We end our hike in a boreal forest, alive with animals, beautiful blue lakes and the smell of pine.  Each zone has its own treasures, historical relics left behind from the gold seekers.

Glacier Bay
July 3rd - July 7th, 2008
The marine wilderness of Glacier Bay National Park and Preserve includes tidewater glaciers, snow-capped mountain ranges, ocean coastlines, deep fjords, and freshwater rivers and lakes. This diverse land and seascape hosts a mosaic of plant communities and a variety of marine and terrestrial wildlife and presents many opportunities for adventuring and learning about this unique and powerful place.

We will be paddling our kayaks out of the Russian settled town of Gustavus.  After a Glacer Bay park orientation by the parks service, we will make our way up in to the bay and into the supremely pristine Beardslee islands.  Here we will spend the next three days exploring the islands and witnessing all their beauty and majesty.  Upon our return to Gustavus, you will have the option of taking the Spirit of Adventure all the way up the bay to the the tidal glaciers on a magnificent day cruise.   Glacier Bay National Park includes 16 tidewater glaciers:12 actively calve icebergs into the bay. The show can be spectacular. As water undermines the ice fronts, great blocks of ice up to 200 feet high break loose and crash into the water. The Johns Hopkins Glacier calves such volumes of ice that it is seldom possible to approach its ice cliffs closer than about 2 miles.  This level of glacial retreat is seen nowhere else on Earth!
